Winemaking here is honest and rustic.
Future Perfect
TASMANIA
Small batch wines from sites of interest in Lutruwita Tasmania, with a focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The winery is on the outskirts of Hobart, in a small facility now home to three wine producers working communally. Some barrels, a few tanks, a basket press and a forklift.
RIESLING
Pipers Brook
A bit of skin contact (12hrs), fermented with light solids in large oak barrels, a bit of stainless steel tank, partial malo and 6 months on lees. Lively aromatics including white flowers, lime leaf, custard apples and chalky minerality.
CHARDONNAY
Upper Derwent Valley
100% Chardonnay from Kinvarra Plenty Vineyard. Whole bunch pressed to both new and old barriques and puncheons with a judicious amount of solids for ferment. Bottled after 11 months in barrel.
PINOT NOIR
Coal River Valley
Bright and pure damson plum, late season raspberries, wild strawberries with some spice and subtle savoury undertones. The warmer season in 2024 leading to more plush and fruits.
Coal River Valley & Upper Derwent Valley
From Brownwood Vineyards. Small parcels of fruit with varying amounts of whole bunch and maceration times. Exotic notes of dark cherry and bramble patch backed by ample tannin. Dense fruit, raspy tannin and supple texture.
Coal River Valley – Single Site
From Brownwood Vineyard. Matured in barriques with 30% new French oak for 12 months. Impressive density of fruit with ample structure and fine long tannins. Dark and brooding, requiring more patience than the standard 2023 Pinot Noir
SHIRAZ
Coal River Valley – Single Site
Deep deep purple in colour indicates where things are heading. Violets, mulberry (perhaps mulberry pie), purple and blue fruits lifted by white pepper, black olives and subtle charcuterie notes. Tannins are present and correct.
